Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of preventable vision loss. The vision loss suffered from glaucoma is due to damage to the ocular nerve. This nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers that carry visual messages to the brain. The exact causes of optic nerve damage from glaucoma are not fully understood.
