ABOUT GLUTATHIONE AND CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME

CFS affects more than 1 million Americans and can be as debilitating as multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and similar chronic conditions. It most commonly occurs in women ages 30 to 50, usually strikes people between the ages of 20 and 40, but also occurs in teens. CFS is characterized by incapacitating fatigue (experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina), sleep difficulties, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. It is also referred to as immune dysfunction syndrome. CFS is diagnosed two to four times more often in women than in men, possibly because of biological, psychological, and social influences. Involving constant, disabling fatigue that is not relieved by bed rest, CFS is a progressive immune disorder which affects all body organs and ecosystems. The well- recognized German immunochemist Dr Wulf Dröge has coined the term ‘Low CG Syndrome’ to describe a number of disease states associated with a depletion of cysteine and Glutathione. Among these are CFS.
